The History of our restaurant and hotel
A Century of Hospitality
The Albergo Ristorante Canè in Dozza has a history that spans almost a century.
According to information contained in documents from the period, it was founded in 1928 as the brainchild of Giulio Canè, who managed the establishment until 1960. Thanks to its strategic position on the border between Emilia and Romagna, and its enviable panoramic hillside location ideal for a day trip, the hotel and restaurant quickly became a reference point in the area’s hospitality landscape.
This was especially true for visitors from the Emilian capital looking to spend one or more days away from the city. Later, the management of the restaurant passed to the founder’s daughter, Ione Canè, who ran it together with her husband Giuliano Carreri until 1983, when Gian Battista Gaddoni and his wife Giuliana took the helm of the business for four decades. Canè experienced a constant rise in the local restaurant and hospitality scene, developing in parallel with the growing national and international prestige of the village of painted walls.
It became an excellent hospitality opportunity and, over time, the ‘home’ of many speed champions on two and four wheels performing at the nearby Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola. But also sports personalities and Italian entertainment figures, many of whom took the stage at the famous ‘Piro Piro’ Dancing Club in Toscanella di Dozza between the ’70s and ’90s, with one name above all: the unforgettable Enzo Tortora, close friend of Dozza journalist Dino Biondi. Not to mention successful entrepreneurs and managers stopping in the village after work commitments at the Bologna exhibition center.
